Atandwa Kani is a South African actor and he is popularly known for being the son of the legendary South African actor John Kani and for appearing in television series such as Life is Wild, Leonardo, The Book of Negroes and movies such as Black Panther and The Suit.

Atandwa Kani was born Atandwa Duduza Yiduthi Kani on the 6th of June, 1984 and he was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, while growing up Atandwa had a father who was very passionate about the movie industry in the person of the legendary actor John Kani, as he was growing up he was influenced by his father and quickly fell in love with acting at a very young age, his father would regularly come back home with bunch of acting scripts which he would study and Kani always watched and sometimes his father John Kani would take him to the Theatre and as time went on, all this began to influence him into following his father’s exact footsteps.
Kani attended a High School in Port Elizabeth, South Africa before he then enrolled at the University of Witwatersrand (WITS) and it is where he studied theatre performance and participated in various school productions, he later graduated in 2008 with a honors of bachelor of arts degree in theatrical performance.

Kani made his acting debut on stage in a play titled The Tempest where he played the role of Ariel alongside his father and Sir Anthony Sher, with the success of his South African acting career, Kani made his United States movie debut in the CW television network program titled Life is Wild, and he starred in the television series from 2010 to 2012 where he played the role of Thabo, in 2009 he appeared in two plays titled Hayani and ID Pending and he starred with fellow actor and school mate Nat Ramabulena which was directed by director Warren Nebe.
In 2010, Kani began to appear in the South African television series Soul Buddyz and was featured in the Truelove Magazine, in 2011 he began to star in 90 Plein Street and he then went on to play the role of young Nelson Mandela in the movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom which was directed by Justin Chadwick, he then went on to appear in Kowethu, The Book of Negroes, Mzansi Magic TV series titled It’s Complicated, in 2010 he appeared on The Suit and in 2018 he appeared as the younger version of T’Chaka in Black Panther.
