Daniel Wu is an American-Hong Kong actor, director and producer and he is best known for his role in the AMC martial arts-drama series Into the Badlands and he is one of the leading actors in the Chinese language film industry.

Daniel Wu was born Daniel Wu Yan-Zu on September 30, 1974 in Berkeley, California, United States and he was raised in Orinda, California, he was born to his parents George Wu, a retired engineer and native of Shanghai and Diana Wu, a college professor, his father emigrated to United States in 1949 and met his mother in New York, while she was still a student and after their marriage, they settled in California and he grew up with two older sisters, Greta and Gloria Wu and an older brother, Steve, who died when he was two years old.
Wu developed a strong interest in martial arts by watching the likes of Jet Li and movies such as The Shaolin Temple and Iron Monkey and this all inspired him to become an actor.
Daniel Wu attended the Head-Royce School in Oakland, California and he later attended University of Oregon, where he majored in architecture.
