Ed Reed is a former American football safety. He was born Edward Earl Reed Jr. on September 11, 1978 in St. Rose, Louisiana, United States and he was raised in Destrehan, Louisiana. He was born to his parents named Karen Reed (Mother) and Edward Reed (Father). He grew up with two siblings named Brian Reed (Brother) and Tracy Reed (Sister).

Ed Reed’s football career started during his time at Destrehan High School in Destrehan, Louisiana. Apart from playing football, he also dabbled into track and field but later settled on football. He received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Miami, where he played as a defensive back. He was a member of the Hurricane’s 2001 National Championship team. He graduated in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal arts and he was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
Reed was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2002 NFL Draft and in 2002, he was signed by the football team for $6.18 million. He scored a total of 13 touchdowns in his career as a Baltimore Ravens player. On March 22, 2013, he signed a three-year deal with Houston Texans and he made his debut for the team on September 22, 2013. On November 14, 2013, he signed for New York Jets. Reed retired from football on May 6, 2015 and he signed a one-day contract with the Ravens and officially retired on May 7, 2015. On January 13, 2016, he was named as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills, but he was not retained after the 2016 season.
