Elvin Bishop is an American blues and rock music singer, guitarist, bandleader and songwriter. He was born Elvin Richard Bishop on October 21, 1942 in Glendale, California, United States and he was raised in Elliott, Iowa and by the time he was ten years old, his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born to his parents named Elvin Bishop Sr. (Father) and Mylda Bishop (Mother). He grew up with a brother named Edward Bishop.

Elvin Bishop’s music career kicked off in 1963 when he met Paul Butterfield in Hyde Park, Butterfield was one of the reigning harmonica players back then and he later joined Butterfield’s band. He contributed to the release of Butterfield’s band third album titled The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw. In 1968, he quit the band and went solo and he then formed the Elvin Bishop Group. In 1984, he appeared at the Long Beach Blues Festival and in 1988, he signed with Alligator Records and released songs like Big Fun, The Skin I’m in, That’s My Partner, Don’t Let the Bossman Get You Down and more.
In 1998, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. In 2005, he released a CD titled Gettin’ My Groove Back and in 2008, he released The Blues Roles On. In 2015, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in November of 2017, his album titled Elvin Bishop’s Big Fun Trio was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.
