Kechi Okwuchi rose to limelight when she appeared as a contestant on the American talent show competition America’s Got Talent in 2019. She reached the finals on the American Got Talent show but she couldn’t make it to the final 5. Due to her performance of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, she got a standing ovation. Okwuchi was one of the two survivors of the Sosoliso Airline Flight 1145 crash on December 10, 2005 which claimed 107 lives and 60 of the deceased were her school mates from Loyola Jesuit College. She received third degree burns over 65% of her body and was given 30% chance of survival. After the Plane crash, she was admitted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa and was later transferred to Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas, United States where she has undergone over hundred reconstructive surgeries.
Over the years, Okwuchi has shared her life story and history at TedxEuston. She has also spoken at Universities and public places like University of Houston, Bethel College, Eastside Community College, Weber High School and at many other events.
