Liev Schreiber was born Isaac Liev Schreiber on the 4th of October, 1967 in San Francisco, California, United States and he was born to his mother named Heather Schreiber and to his father named Tell Carroll Schreiber, who worked as a stage actor and director, his father was a protestant while his mother was Jew and his family was wealthy and he has Ukrainian ancestry as his maternal grandfather emigrated from Ukraine, Schreiber and his family relocated to Canada when he was 1 year-old and they settled in Winlaw, British Columbia.
Due to the problems between his parents, his mother had to take him away and this made his father send detectives after them, at the age of three, he was kidnapped by his and for years, his father and mother battled each at the court for his custody, by the time he was five years old, his parents divorced and his mother won custody of him.
He enrolled at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City, while in School, he developed a lot of interest in playing the bass clarinet, he later attended the Friends Seminary alongside actress Amanda Peet, he enrolled at the Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, which was where he began his acting program and he also attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Schreiber also attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
