He was born Matthew Nagy on April 24, 1978 in Dunellen, New Jersey, United States and he was raised in Manheim, Pennsylvania. He was born to his parents named Gail Stouch (Mother) and Bill Nagy (Father). He grew up with a brother named Steve Nagy. Nagy grew up being a huge fan of football.

Nagy played both Basketball and football while attending Manheim Central High School. In 1994, he shined at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class AAA Playoffs. Nagy went on to play for the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens from 1997 until 2000. Nagy was not selected in the 2001 NFL Draft and he was then taken as a free agent by the New York Giants. He later moved to New York Dragons. In November, 2003, he moved to the Carolinas Cobras and in October of 2004, he penned a one-year deal with Georgia Force. In 2007, he moved to the Columbus Destroyers and played with them until 2008.
Nagy joined the Palmyra Area High School as offensive coordinator in 2008. He was a coaching intern at Philadelphia Eagles from 2008 until 2009. In 2010, he worked as an assistant coach at Philadelphia Eagles. From 2011 till 2012, he worked as an offensive quality control coach. From 2016 till 2017, he worked as an offensive coordinator at Kansas City Chiefs. In 2017, he became the head coach of Chicago Bears. During his first season as Chicago Bears head coach in 2018, he won 12 games and lost four.
