Michael Moorer is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1988 to 2008. He is known for winning multiple-time world champion in two weigh classes.

Michael Moorer was born Michael Lee Moorer on November 12, 1967 in Brooklyn, New York and he was raised in Monessen, Pennsylvania by a single mother.

Right from his early days as a kid, Moorer had a lot of interest in football and he also had issues of hyperactivity. By the time he was 10 years old, his grandfather, a former New York Golden Glove Champion enrolled him into a boxing academy.

Michael Moorer attended Monessen High School and graduated in 1987 and he didn’t attend College.

Boxing Career

Michael Moorer relocated to Detroit, Michigan to train with the legendary boxer, Emanuel Steward and in 1986; he became a Nation Champion for the 156lb (light middleweight).

He debuted professionally on March 4, 1988 and defeated Ramzi Hassan to win the WBO light heavyweight title and in 1989, he retained the title six times.
On April 22, 1994, he defeated Evander Holyfield to clinch the Unified Heavyweight Champion and on November 5, 1994, he retained his title against George Foreman.

Moorer made a boxing comeback in July 3, 2004 and his first match after coming back from retirement was lost to Eliseo Castillo in Miami, Florida.

Michael Moorer’s fight was in 2008, when he defeated Shelby Gross with a KO and after the fight, he announced that he was retiring for good from boxing.
