Ted Hartley is a US Navy fighter pilot, investment banker, actor, film producer and CEO of RKO Pictures. He was born Theodore Ringwalt Hartley on November 6, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska, United States and he was raised in a farm in Iowa. His career kicked off after he entered a writing contest sponsored by Warner Bros., he wrote a 50-word essay on Why I Like to Fly and won flying lessons. His flying lessons inspired him into becoming a fighter pilot.

Hartley won an appointment to the United States Naval Academy when he was 16 years old, he served as a carrier-based fighter pilot and flew F-11s. As a Naval officer, he had tours as a congressional liaison for the Pentagon as a presidential aid. In 1964, he retired from the Navy after he suffered injuries from a plane crash, the crash occurred with the jet which he was flying. After Hartley’s military career ended prematurely, he began to attend Harvard Business School and pursued a career in investment banking and he went on to become the vice president for First Western Corporation.
As an actor, he starred in films and television series and shows like ABC’s Chopper One, Peyton Place and many more. In 1987, he purchased 51% of RKO Pictures and merged it with Pavilion Communications and in 1991, the merge formed RKO Pictures LLC. As a producer, Hartley worked on films and series like Mighty Joe Young, Milk & Money, The Gin Game, A Late Quartet, Barely Lethal and many more.
