Viggo Mortensen was born Viggo Peter Mortensen Jr. on the 20th of October, 1958 in New York City, New York, United States of America and he was born to a mother named Grace Gamble and his father named Viggo Peter Mortensen Sr., his mother was an American, while his father was Danish, he and his parents later relocated to Venezuela, then they moved to Denmark before settling in Argentina and it was in Argentina that Mortensen attended Elementary School and he also learnt to speak Spanish and his father worked as a poultry farm manager.
Mortensen’s parents divorced when he was just 11 years of age, this made he, his brothers and mother to move back to New York City, while in New York, he enrolled at the Watertown High School which is located in Watertown and graduated in 1976, he then attended the St. Lawrence University in Canton, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish studies and Politics in 1980, after graduating from College, Mortensen moved back to Denmark, he worked as a truck driver there and also did other odd jobs such as selling flower before he then returned back to the United States and began to pursue a career in acting.
